Skellefteå Kraft continues installation of Exeri’s Smart Grid monitoring - now for an additional 230km of their grid

Skellefteå Kraft is continuously increasing digitization of their power grid and thus continues installation of Exeri Smart Grid Surveillance. The system provides an easy-to-use situational awareness of the overhead grid, giving large increases in reliability

Skellefteå Kraft started installation of Exeri’s system in 2018, and have in several steps extended their grid surveillance since then. Skellefteå Kraft works continuously and long-term to reduce their power outages and increase reliability. Now they are expanding the Smart Grid Surveillance installation in an additional 230 km of the grid.

“We are already using Smart Grid Surveillance, and have noted that this technology gives great value. We are now expanding the digital grid monitoring even more, both on old and newly built lines. This is in line with our strategy to make the grid smarter and reduce outage time for our customers.” says Mikael Söderström, project engineer at Skellefteå Kraft.

Smart Grid Surveillance (SGS) makes it possible to get a real time situation picture of the power grid status – the grid operators will know what parts do in fact work as expected, and which parts currently do not. This is presented in an easy to grasp map picture of the grid, where not only possible outages are shown but also exact fault positioning and how to immediately restore power to as many customers as possible. Thus there is no need for complex calculations, guesswork or trial and error when sending repair crews, as they can be directed to the correct spot at once.

Smart Grid Surveillance an industry-unique Swedish system that gathers information from smart IoT sensors deployed in the power grid. Together with advanced AI-based data algorithms, this provides accurate fault identification/positioning as well as a statistical view of where smaller disturbances occur, which makes it possible to plan maintenance work to where it is really needed.
The IoT sensors are mounted quickly (in less than 5 minutes) with the power line in operation. SGS gives a more reliable power grid with fewer and shorter outages, making work easier both for grid operators and field personnel through its simplicity and exactness.

"We are very proud to be able to help Skellefteå Kraft in their strive towards digitization and increased reliability in the power grid," says Elisabeth Johansson, co-founder of Exeri and responsible for delivery projects. "We see that our system gives them possibilities they never before have had, to act quickly, prioritize correctly and work preventively."
