Exeri delivers smart grid monitoring with IoT sensors to Gotland

Gotlands Elnät AB invests further in electric grid reliability by choosing Exeri’s innovation Smart Grid Surveillance. The system provides continuous digital monitoring of the overhead line network and new opportunities to reduce the downtime for electricity customers.

Gotlands Elnät AB (Geab) operates approx. 7,000 km of electric grid on Sweden's largest island Gotland and supplies electricity to more than 43,000 customers. Geab is owned by Vattenfall, Sweden’s state-owned utility and one of Europe’s largest producer and retailer of electricity and heat, together with Region Gotland. The grid operator works continuously and long-term to reduce power outages. Geab now chooses to install Exeri Smart Grid Surveillance in the northern part of the island.

Smart Grid Surveillance (SGS) is an industry-unique Swedish system that consists of smart IoT sensors deployed in the electric grid, which together with advanced AI-based data algorithms provide accurate fault identification. The sensors are mounted quickly (in less than 5 minutes) with the power line in operation. SGS makes it possible to locate faults in the grid in real time and by that avoiding manual inspections of line sections. SGS enables higher reliability in the grid with fewer and shorter power outages and improves economy by digitizing old labor-intensive processes.
