Sala-Heby Energi Elnät chooses Smart Grid Surveillance to increase reliability and reduce power outages

Sala-Heby Energi Elnät AB is further investing in reducing power outages and deviations in the electric grid by choosing Exeri's technical innovation Smart Grid Surveillance.

Sala-Heby Energi Elnät AB (SHE) delivers electricity to more than 13,000 customers in the Swedish counties Västmanland and Uppsala and the grid company operates more than 1,400 km of overhead lines. The company has a Vision Zero for the electric grid, i.e. no power outages. SHE is constantly evaluating ways to reduce power outages and implement smart digital technology. Sala-Heby Energi Elnät AB now chooses to install Exeri Smart Grid Surveillance in a grid area with challenging terrain conditions.

“We work actively to reduce downtime and increase reliability. Smart Grid Surveillance will provide our line workers with direct and accurate information about the position of the fault. We also see new opportunities to work proactively, to find problem segments and carry out preventive maintenance before errors occur." says Mats Olsson, responsible for Operations & Design at Sala-Heby Energi Elnät AB.

Smart Grid Surveillance (SGS) is an industry-unique Swedish system that consists of smart IoT sensors deployed in the electric grid, which together with advanced AI-based data algorithms provide accurate fault identification. The sensors are mounted quickly (in less than 5 minutes) with the power line in operation. SGS makes it possible to locate faults in the grid in real time and by that avoiding manual inspections of line sections. SGS enables higher reliability in the grid with fewer and shorter power outages and improves economy by digitizing old labor-intensive processes.

"We are very proud that also Sala-Heby Energi Elnät chooses to install Smart Grid Surveillance," says Elisabeth Söderström Johansson, project manager and one of the founders of Exeri. "The collaboration further strengthens our position as the leader in electric grid monitoring in Sweden."
